The specified database has an incorrect collation

The specified database has an incorrect collation. Rebuild the database with the Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS collation or create a new database – got this error when I was trying to mount a content database to an existing Web application in SharePoint using PowerShell command:

Mount-SPContentDatabase “Content.database” –WebApplication “”

The specified database has an incorrect collation
The specified database has an incorrect collation – error

Error message clearly stated that the database is created with incorrect collation.


  1. Open SQL Server Management Studio and connect to database server.
  2. Select the database and right click -> Properties
  3. In the properties pane, Select Options
  4. Update the Collation drop down to Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS and Ok.

Note: If it says that the database is in a locked state and does not let you to update the collation, take the database to Offline mode first before changing the collation. After the change, bring it back to online mode.
